Yields1 ServingPrep Time10 minsCook Time15 minsTotal Time25 mins

Traditional Lebanese kebabs are a classic street food. They’re really simple; pita bread, meat, sauce, pickles, maybe some tomato thrown in. This recipe is so delicious and easy that you’ll never need to go for takeaway kebabs again!

 2 tsp chicken shawarma spices
 2 large chicken breasts
1 romaine lettuce, or ½ a small iceberg lettuce
 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
½ large red onion, finely sliced
a handful of mixed fresh herbs (optional); coriander, mint, flat leaf parsley
pickle of your choice – we like pickled hot peppers!
 Alamir Bakery Hummus
 Alamir Bakery Tarator (tahini dressing)
Alamir Bakery Pita Bread – original or wholemeal
1

If you are barbequing your meat, turn your barbeque on high now.

2

Cube the chicken breast into bite-sized portions, sprinkle with the Chicken Shawarma spices and mix. Get your hands in there! Tightly pack the chicken onto the skewers . Don’t forget to wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
This could be prepared the day before for a more intense flavour.

3

Grill your chicken kebabs for 10-15 mins turning once, until golden.

4

Prepare all fresh ingredients and line up ready for kebab assembly.

5

Quickly heat your pita bread in the microwave for 10 seconds each. Time may vary depending on your microwave model.

6

Take your Alamir Bakery Pita Bread and split it along the outside edge.

7

Take two pita halves and overlap them, inside up, with two centimetres overhang each side.

8

Spread a line of Alamir Bakery Hummus down the centre, leaving 4 centimetres clear.

9

Add the chicken from one skewer, then top with your choice of salad ingredients.

10

Drizzle with tarator.

11

Fold one end of the pita bread inwards, then roll from one side to the other, keeping the kebab nice and tight.

Et voila! Enjoy your Lebanoms!
